What do I need: A copywriter or Content Writer? A copywriter's expertise is more in the areas of headlines, taglines, banners, social media content, ads (Print and online)
Do I need a full-time copywriter, or will a freelance copywriter suffice? Weigh the pros and cons; the big pro for having an in-house copywriter is that he's exclusively yours, while a freelancer can be doing other projects when you need him the most. The con is, maybe the amount of work doesn't require hiring a full-time copywriter, and all that entails with it.
What percentage of the position is "other stuff?" i.e, analyzing, A/B testing and all that. If it's 50% or more, hire a copywriter part-time, or on freelance basis. Remember, the title is copywriter or content writer and not copyanalyzer.
What type of copywriting do I need: B2B? B2C? A mixture of both?
Are you willing to train? Because sometimes you'll run into a talented candidate who has less experience in your field or with some apps that you work with. Do you have the patience to guide him? The answer depends also how much the candidate is interested in the position.
What aspect are you willing to compromise? Remember, there are no perfect candidates out there. If you want to get the best out of your copywriter, and if you want him to stick with you long-term, you will need to invest in him. So are you willing to take on someone who is more "green," or someone who is more experienced (or, heaven forbid, "overqualified).
Do you see this position developing, or evolving? Don't hire a copywriter and expect him to take on account management or something else unrelated to the original position. Perhaps he's expecting the position to evolve, or take on additional responsibilities related to the position.
