1. Writing is Therapeutic: Writing is an excellent channel to vent one's feeling, to release one's thoughts, onto a page, whether real or virtual. Writing can make you feel better. It's no secret experts recommend setting up a journal and writing every day something that you did, what you feel, and accomplishment - it can help.

2. Take out your frustrations: This is a fun way to take out your frustrations on your former boss or ex that you feel did you wrong. Dress 'em up as a pirate or another fanciful character and give them a broadside of your thoughts. For your eyes only, of course...

3. Test your literary talents: Well, why not? Not everyone will be the next Shakespeare or even Larry David, but you don't need to. All you need to do is find a topic that you like and start writing about it.

4. Write for you - not for an audience. One of the great things I enjoy about writing is that, especially in fiction, I write the story that I want to write. It's my story, my baby, and when the time comes and the publisher wants to make some changes - we'll talk about that. But until then - write whatever you want (as long as it's not offensive, of course)

5. Writing lifts you above this world: You can transport yourself anywhere you want. Whether it's somewhere in the Caribbean, downtown Manhattan, the Sahara desert, the lush Amazon jungle, the 50 yard line at the stadium of the football team you root for - choose your destination and imagine you're there.

6. It doesn't cost a dime: All you need is a laptop/desktop computer (for goodness' sake, never a tablet!), a little time set aside, and some imagination.

7. People love a good, positive story. It's something else you can share that can provide cheer, warmth, comfort, encouragement.

8. Writing is fun: Yes, even gibberish. Putting down stuff and then saying, "what the heck did I mean by that?" and laughing about it.

9. When someone sees you write, it can encourage them to write, too.

10. Do you really need any specific reason to write?
